Mikhail Sumbatyan: To create a college whose graduates employers line up for - that’s my dream! My dream school My dream college in English

I am Sophia Kuzinkova from Stary Oskol. I study at school in the 7th form. My school is OK but sometimes I find it is a bit boring and tiring because of lots of homework.

So I would like to make some changes. If I were a principal of the school I would cancel homework - I think it is wasting time! Then, I would make the breaks between lessons longer. Next, I would also improve the menu in school canteen - most of food is absolutely disgusting. I think students need more salads, fruit, and vegetables.

The next step is holidays. Summer holidays are long enough but I would make autumn, winter and spring holidays longer to let pupils to spend more time out or to travel.

My favorite school subject is Biology so in my ideal school I would like to have the subject every day. It is a good idea to have more practice and different researches or projects.

Sports, Music, Arts and Crafts should be main subjects and the teachers have to be friendly, happy and experienced. So they have to be well paid!

In the school of my dream I would also include more excursions and school trips in the schedule. I think it is very important to travel with classmates and to share impressions.

This is the idea of the school of my dream.

Translation:

I'm Sofya Kuzinkova from Stary Oskol. I'm in seventh grade. My school is good, but sometimes I find it a little boring and tiring due to a lot of homework.

So I would like to change something. If I were a school principal, I would cancel homework - I think it's a waste of time. Then, I would make the breaks between lessons longer. I would also improve the menu in the school canteen - most of the food is simply disgusting. I think schoolchildren need more salads, vegetables, and fruits.

The next step is school holidays. The summer holidays are quite long, but I would lengthen the autumn, winter and spring holidays to allow students to spend more time away from home or traveling.

My favorite subject at school is biology, so in my ideal school I would like to have this subject every day. It would be nice to have more practical classes, different studies or projects.

Sports and music activities, art should be made core subjects and teachers should be friendly, cheerful and experienced. Therefore, their work should be well paid.

I would include more excursions and travel in my dream school's schedule. I think it is very important to travel with your classmates and share experiences.

This is the idea for my dream school.

My dream institute should look like this. It should be located in a pine forest.

This institute will have the following areas: programmer, web designer, computer game developers and 3D designers.

Each student was allocated a place in the dormitory. It should be located next to this institute. There was also a dining room on the 1st floor.

Next to this institute there was a swimming pool and a stadium. Where did the physical training take place?

My dream institute

Everyone has their own dream institute.

And for me, this is modern equipment in specialized classrooms, because I want practical classes to be held with interest, with the opportunity to learn everything new.

I wanted there to be large and warm audiences.

So that the institute would be located in a pine forest on the campus, where there are not only dormitories, but also a sports club, where there would be a swimming pool and several gyms in which physical education classes would be held.

Of course, I am not against humanitarian subjects, but it would be better to reduce them to a minimum and instead do more practical classes.

After all, without practice there is no knowledge.

In the canteen at the institute of my dreams, prices should be affordable for every student, and the choice should amaze with its diversity.

Every student should have a scholarship, regardless of what basis he is studying on, on a contract or on a budget.

The institute of my dream should look so. It(he) should settle down in pine to a pine forest.

In this institute there will be the following directions: the programmer, the web - designer, developers of computer games and 3D designers.

To each student the place in a hostel was allocated. It should settle down near this institute. Also on 1 floor the dining room settled down.

Near to this institute the pool and stadium settled down. Where the physical culture was carried out(was spent).

Institute of my dream

For everyone institute of his(its) dream the.

And for me this modern equipment in the specialized audiences, in fact would be desirable that practical employment(occupations) passed with interest, with an opportunity to learn(find out) all new.

It would be desirable that there were big and warm audiences.

That the institute in pine to a pine forest in campus where there is not only hostels, but also a sports club where the pool and some sports halls in which employment(occupations) of physical culture would be carried out(would be spent) would settle down settled down.

I certainly not against humanitarian subjects, but better to reduce them up to a minimum, and instead of it to make more than practical employment(occupations).

In fact without practice there is no knowledge.

In a dining room in institute of my dream of the price should be accessible to each student, and the choice should amaze with the variety.

The grant should be at each student independently on what basis it(he) studies, on the contract or the budget.

I have been studying at a higher educational institution for 4 years (one might even say 5 years). And, probably, like every student, I encountered strange and principled teachers, with disruptions in the schedule, with pre-session depression, with long waits in queues to take tests or consultations... I was a lot nervous and worried, complaining about the dean’s office, teachers and the education system ... I’ll focus on the education system. I will tell a modest number of readers of this magazine my thoughts.

So, an essay on the topic “The higher education institution of my dreams.”

Do you think we will now talk about free education, about canceling the session and free attendance? But no! However, read it if you're interested!

I'll start in order with the class schedule. Dividing into two shifts is mandatory. Firstly, to give students the opportunity to earn extra money without violating the discipline of attending classes. It is very difficult to find a job when classes start either in the morning or in the afternoon. But either in the morning or in the afternoon - it’s easier. Secondly, so as not to injure the body by constantly changing sleep-wake patterns. Tested from my own experience: getting up at 7 am every day is easier than once every two weeks, and you remain consistently energized throughout the day.

Next, the number of items. It will remain as intended. BUT the number of subjects studied simultaneously should be reduced and their order changed. Let's say that for the first two years a person will receive a standard basic higher education, and from the third year of study will study only specialized subjects. Moreover, the final certification should be carried out not in two sessions, but as the program progresses in each subject. The course has ended - the test, the next course has ended - the exam... And it’s easier to prepare and remember.

Lectures. It is necessary that the lectures be recorded, and that the lecturer has good diction and rhetorical abilities, a rich vocabulary, and a loud voice (or microphone). Otherwise, falling asleep during a lecture will be easier than a steamed turnip.

Practical lessons should be practical exercises, not hours of consultation. It is better to leave time for consultations for those who need them. Each practical course must be based on a theoretical one.

Material compensation. Since our education is paid, and there is no escape from it, we need to compensate students for the costs of printing coursework and theses, as well as the necessary materials for specialized courses (for example, cardboard for prototyping at the Faculty of Architecture or paints and canvas at the Faculty of Fine Arts). Everything is normalized, of course. Retake - at your own expense.

Something like that.

Oh yes! More! It is necessary to prohibit carrying out repair, and in particular painting, work during training! :)

Post script: There’s a lot of text, now we need a lot of beautiful pictures!

“The dream of an extraordinary, exceptional, best college in the world has come a long way from idea to reality. And on this path there were three main points. The first is fate. I believe that everything, or almost everything that happens to us is fate, we need to believe in it. The second point was meeting an extraordinary person at the age of 17. And the third is the experience that took me through education, business, management of several colleges to realize my dream,” says Mikhail Sumbatyan.

Point one. Experiments and self-belief

In 1997, as in the times of the classics, various events took place both in the “big” world and in the “small” one.
This year, Moscow celebrated its 850th anniversary, millions of fans greeted the films “Titanic” and “The Fifth Element”, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain opened the first official royal website, the cloned sheep Dolly was born in Scotland, Intel officially introduced the Pentium II microprocessor, and 102-year-old Irishwoman Bridget Dirren received her diploma with honors National University Great Britain.

In a smaller world, 19-year-old Misha Sumbatyan graduated from the experimental Moscow College of Management and Marketing (now College No. 11) and was preparing to become a great marketer.

This guy was clearly not an angel in the flesh. Well-read, sociable, lively - and unusually freedom-loving. It’s a headache for teachers, and at the same time it’s their pride.

In this college, out of 150 people in the first intake, only 30 graduates approached the finals. And among them is Mikhail.

He withstood all the experiments conducted in the classrooms by fan teachers and psychologists. He, together with his fellow students, searched for and obtained information, analyzed it and sold it - this was a condition of learning. He slept for 2-3 hours while submitting his projects and rushed back to college. He himself became infected with the conviction that information, intelligence and freedom of imagination are important in business. This means that proper education is important in business.

What does correct mean? This is education that changes lives. Which allows the birth of a dream and faith in one’s strength. Which creates a desire to develop without stopping.

Point two. Business experience

After college, having entered the institute to major in psychology, Mikhail Sumbatyan immediately found a job. His area of interest became international distribution of products.

Find the best product, negotiate cooperation with the largest retailers in Russia, bring the product, put it on the shelf, control sales - after his experimental college, the guy was not afraid of new tasks. I was on business trips all over the world. Studied. I was constantly looking for new knowledge about products, finance, and promotion.

At the age of 19, having started his career as a sales manager, at the age of 23 Mikhail became the general director of the company.
At the age of 25, he mastered factoring, having overcome the peculiarities of the document flow of French and American retail chains. Became a co-owner of the company where he worked.
Before the age of 30, he survived two economic crisis and two company bankruptcies.

“They didn’t shoot me, I managed to come to an agreement with the creditors. This is already a victory in those conditions. During the crisis, the destruction of the business gave receipts for debts and always fulfilled what was promised. Even if it took not a month, not a year, but two,” Mikhail Surenovich recalls the “hard times”.

And yet the company had to be closed. The competitors were too strong. However, they failed to “hang” debts on Mikhail and his co-founders. Two years of life, tons of documents, gigabytes of information acquired, a firm and reasoned position in litigation– Mikhail Sumbatyan received an indestructible “Zero” in liquidation of cases and invaluable experience in crisis management.

In fact, it was he who fed Mikhail’s family for the next two years - many companies needed qualified consulting in the interaction between business and the state, when creating companies, and when building logistics. Another person in Sumbatyan’s place would not have wanted anything more. But that is a different person.

Point three. Evening revolutionary

I developed a need to work somewhere on the border between education and psychology when I was 25 years old. But the circumstances still didn’t work out. It’s a pity, I missed that incredible atmosphere of exciting pursuit of new knowledge, which was so abundant in our college. And the older I got, the more different business experience I gained, the stronger the need to convey all this became. But to whom?

And already in 2010, by chance (in fact, Mikhail believes that Fate had its say here too), in a conversation with friends, he learned that the Moscow Department of Secondary Vocational Education was announcing a competition for the positions of college directors - creating a personnel reserve.

Less than a month had passed since Mikhail Surenovich passed the tests and became the director of the Small Business College.

Three buildings in the South-West of Moscow. 1.5 thousand students. 350 faculty and staff. All this suddenly became the responsibility of a 30-year-old ex-businessman with a degree in psychology.

Sumbatyan entered the walls of the college with the memory of his favorite teachers, with the memory of himself as a student, with reverence and great hopes.

All this delicate flair flew away from the newly-minted director overnight. The reality from the office of the head of the college looked completely different from that from the classroom of student Misha Sumbatyan. Of the 13 deputy directors, 11 turned out to be relatives - but who's counting? What students were given in lectures as business knowledge could not be applied in practice even 10 years ago - but reporting is the norm?

Here everything needs to be changed and changed radically, Mikhail Surenovich realized. Easier said than done, he realized a month later. The old system, which made it possible to teach something painlessly and somehow, resisted furiously.

Everyone smiled in the director’s face, but attempts to introduce new faces into the teaching staff or staff resulted in thousands of complaints to the department management.
It seemed that everyone was dissatisfied with the new director - from the head teacher to the technician.

I had no knowledge of how to skillfully win in this system. And where would they come from? I came from business. But both in business and here there is something I can do: isolate a problem, formulate it and find ways to resolve it. Having trouble with the teaching staff? Let's go... to the students.

I came to the audience and said: guys, let's get acquainted. I am such and such, I have experience in such and such areas. Interesting? Yes, they answer!

I started doing a sales technology course. I started working on this program as a graduate student. In the evenings. What a great time! There is no one at college (everyone is eager to go home!) except the children and me.

Six months later, the college had a website, a brand book, and new programs. It was possible to sell tickets to the director's classes.

No matter what I did, I always respected the children and spoke honestly to them. He could have kept silent about something, of course. But what he said was true. And they saw it.

A few more weeks later, the students themselves showed me those real, smart, and child-loving teachers who at this college had fallen out of favor with the previous administration and were about to leave. Of course, I didn’t let them go anywhere!

Perhaps if things had turned out differently, Mikhail Surenovich would still be working at this college. But the consolidation and disaggregation of educational institutions, the leapfrog with appointments during a certain period forced him to drop out of the “game” for a while.
However, the desire to make the best college, multiplied by business experience and a case of real management educational institution, finally forced me to formulate my ideas on paper.

Mikhail spent two months writing the concept of the new college. Dream colleges. Possibly the best college there could be.

The circle is closed. Perhaps the best

What is a good professional education today, Mikhail Sumbatyan asked himself. And he answered this way: this is a comprehensive implementation of the knowledge, those competencies that are created by the employing companies themselves.

This is the kind of education that can be certified – Russian and international. A graduate of our college came to the enterprise, the employer looked at your documents, saw that you have a professional level of certification, he gives a project, and you do it. He will be sure that you will do it, because you brought a document that confirms your competence, that is, the acquired professional knowledge, skills, abilities.

This is an education that sets your trajectory for 7-10 years ahead. College - university - MBA. Interest in development, passion in the search for knowledge, expansion of professional and personal competencies.

And such a college appeared - first in the plans of Mikhail Surenovich, and after a record a short time, less than a year, and in real life.

Life doesn't break. She trains. Everything I went through before I got the opportunity to build the college of my dreams is all useful to me now. Look: in the concept of our college there are three fundamental laws.
The relevance of knowledge for future professionals is the first. Objectivity in assessing education is second. Independence in the learning process is the third.

We implemented the first law by simply opening the doors to IT companies. We said: recommend “cool” specialists who can head departments, can teach, and can lead real IT projects with our guys. And these people appeared here! At the same time, we are opening authorized academies for different vendors. All this together gives our students not a theoretical, but a real, professional education.

We implemented the second law through the introduction of knowledge certification. This is an objective procedure - an independent assessment, when a person is not involved in the assessment and therefore does not depend on the human factor. Whether I like the student or not, it doesn’t matter. The person sat down at the computer, connected to the international platform and completed this procedure in a certain amount of time. This is not a test, this is precisely certification as a procedure, it is much more complicated.

The purpose of certification is to assess how much you have mastered a competency. You came to the enterprise, the employer looked at your documents, saw that you have a professional level of certification, he gives you a project, and you do it. He will be sure that you will do it, because you brought a document that confirms your competence, that is, the acquired professional knowledge, skills, abilities. These are the types of certifications we are introducing today.

And finally, our third law is independence. When we were preparing for the opening of the college, I was racking my brains about how to arrange everything better and more convenient for our children. I scrolled through thousands of options in my head. And then I suddenly thought: why am I suffering? Let them decide for themselves - what their audience will look like, what additional knowledge they will need, who to invite to the conversation from the IT world, how to maintain discipline... And then the idea of the Student Council arose. They exist in universities, why not create them in colleges?

And indeed, soon after the start school year College students - having met and gotten to know each other a little - were already choosing their President and the rest of the cabinet of ministers.

We are just at the beginning of our journey, we have only been working for the first year. But I want our students to never forget this time, just as I never forgot my experimental college,” says Mikhail Sumbatyan enthusiastically.
