The University of British Columbia (UBC) is an international research and teaching center, consistently ranked among the top 40 universities in the world. Since 1915, UBC has been open-minded and challenged the established educational landscape, much like the west coast of Canada. The entrepreneurial orientation of the university encourages students, teachers and staff to test the strength of traditions, conduct unique research and look for new teaching methods. At UBC, every daring thought is given the opportunity to develop into an idea that could change the world. The university provides extensive opportunities for international interaction of students, teachers, staff and alumni, and also cooperates with universities, organizations and enterprises around the world.

In 1877, just six years after British Columbia was annexed to Canada, John Jessop, Superintendent of Education, proposed a university in the new Canadian province. The University of British Columbia Act was passed by the provincial legislature in 1890, but disagreements arose over whether the university should be built on Vancouver Island or on the mainland. By merging Vancouver and Victoria high schools with McGill University, Henry Marshall Tory then helped found the University of British Columbia. McGill. From 1906 to 1915, McGill BC College (as it was then called) remained a private educational institution that, for several years, prepared the student for a degree at McGill University or another university. In 1941, Henry Marshall Tory, founder and president of the University of Albert and the National Research Council of Canada, co-founder of Carlton University, instituted the. Henry Marshall Tory.

Among the past and present teachers and alumni:

  • Two Prime Ministers of Canada
  • 11 members of the Canadian National Teaching Fellowship

So, on October 19, 2015, Canada chose a new government headed by a prime minister. The Liberal Party became the ruling party and its leader, Justin Trudeau, took the place of Prime Minister of Canada. At this point, the Conservatives' time in 9 long years ended, and Stephen Harper resigned his powers as head of state. With the change of government cabinet, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration of Canada also changed. It was John McCallum. What are the implications of these changes for international students and potential immigrants? Citizenship and Immigration Canada itself says positive changes are coming to increase the total number of new permanent residents in Canada, including through family reunification programs, changes to the Express Entry system and restoring the maximum age limit for sponsored children under 22. In addition, possible changes in relation to international students in Canada were also discussed. Reportedly, the new prime minister promised that immigration to Canada for students will become somewhat easier and more realistic, in particular, he plans to remove the barriers that prevent foreign students from entering the Canadian Experience Class immigration program. And we just have to follow the news closely and hope for good news!

It is possible to get a work visa to Canada in 2015 again

05/08/201505/08/2015

People who want to get a Work Visa to Canada find hope again. After the introduction of the new Express Entry immigration system, the receipt of work visas to Canada in 2015 was actually stopped. Typically, these pauses occur when certain changes need to be made. The same happened with work visas. And on April 30, 2015, these innovations were finally presented and put into effect. First of all, the following criteria were updated: average hourly wages by profession and by region, which sorted all vacancies into "high wages" and "low wages". As before, in order to obtain a work permit for a foreign worker, an employer must first apply to ESDC, Economic and Social Development Canada. Based on the results of their work, a Canadian company can receive a positive LMIA (formerly LMO), a labor market assessment, which essentially means that this position cannot be filled by local workers, and gives the right to invite an employee from abroad. Under the new rules, ESDC compares the offered salary for a job with the average salary in the province and, based on this, classifies the employer's request into one of the categories: “high salary” and “low salary”. If the level of wages is below the average for the province, then the requirements are one, if higher, then others.

High wage stream

For this category, the employer must submit an action plan for the company to reduce the dependence of business on foreign workers (Transition plan). The use of foreign labor should be temporary.

Low wage stream

This category does not require drawing up a similar plan (Transition plan), but there are other requirements. A Canadian employer is not eligible to exceed the limit on the number of low-wage foreign workers. In addition, obtaining LMIAs for certain job positions in such areas as: Accommodation, Food, Retail will be severely limited. Employers who offer wages below the provincial average are required to: pay for the employee's transport services (to and from Canada), ensure the availability of affordable housing for the employee, pay for the employee's temporary health insurance until they become eligible for provincial health insurance, provide a work contract. For all low-wage positions, the duration of the work permit will be limited to 1 year. Starting April 30, 2015, the most updated regional unemployment data will be taken into account when issuing work visas to Canada. These metrics will determine in which regions employers can qualify to hire a foreign worker for a low-wage / low-skill position in the Living, Catering and Retail sectors. LMIA applications will not be considered for these industries in regions with unemployment rates of 6 percent and above.

Accelerated processing of documents for a Work visa to Canada

Some high-paying, high-demand jobs in Canada, as well as short-term vacancies, can be provided with expedited review services - in as little as 10 business days. Applying for the LMIA requires a very serious approach on the part of the employer and includes the collection of a number of supporting documents and statistical information, for example, data on the number of candidates for a position among local residents, the number of unqualified candidates for a position, and more.

Canadian citizenship is getting more expensive ...

01/06/201501/06/2015

Effective January 1, 2015, the federal government of Canada has dramatically increased fees for processing documents for Canadian citizenship.

This is the second significant increase in fees in less than a year. In February 2014, the fee was raised from 100 Canadian dollars to 300. Now, since January 1, 2015, the cost of processing an application for citizenship is 530 Canadian dollars.

In addition to the $ 530, there is still a so-called Right of Citizenship fee of 100 Canadian dollars.

Immigration and Citizenship Canada said the new rates will cover the cost of processing each application, which is approximately C $ 555. Thus, higher prices will remove the additional burden from taxpayers.

The new fees can be found on the official website CIC.

Below is a comparative information on the cost of similar services in other countries. As you can see, the most affordable contributions in Australia are $ 264 in Canadian currency. In the UK, by contrast, citizenship is truly a luxury that will cost you £ 959 or Canadian $ 1,740. That's it! There is something to appreciate.

Canada's Most Popular Cities for Immigration 2014

10/04/201410/04/2014

As of 2014, Canada has compiled a list of cities that attract the largest number of immigrants in the category of skilled immigrants. The top six includes such cities in Canada as:

Calgary, Alberta

Vancouver, British Columbia

Ottawa, Ontario

Waterloo, Ontario

Richmond Hill, Ontario

Saint John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

The main criteria for this study were such indicators as: the health care system, the state of the economy, the state of the environment, the level of the education system, innovativeness, the situation with residential real estate and the social order.

First place Calgary owes primarily to the current state of its economy and a significant shift in innovation. But at the same time, it should be noted that it is precisely the significant growth that is the reason for the somewhat weakened state of affairs in such areas as: education and health care. The city simply cannot keep up with the pace of development and population growth.

Vancouver, as always, is renowned for the state of the environment and the integrity of the population. The city's beauty and temperate climate attract many new immigrants.

Ottawa also stood out for its social order. In addition, such spheres as education, innovation and economics were at their best.

Waterloo itself is the cradle of numerous startups (new companies), so it is not surprising that the indicators of the level of innovative technologies in the city are very high, as well as education and the economy.

The Toronto suburb of Richmond Hill has shown excellent excellence in education, innovation and community. It is this city that annually produces the largest number of graduates in the field of engineering, mathematics and natural sciences on a per capita basis.

The surprise on this list was the city of St. John's, which showed incredible results on one of the criteria, the health care system. Strong economic performance has been underpinned by the region's impressive oil wealth.

Population of Canada 2014 and projections for 2038

09/25/201409/25/2014

According to Statistics Canada's September 2014 report, Canada's population will continue to grow over the next 50 years, reaching between 39.35 million and 43.47 million by 2038 and between 40 and 63.5 million by 2063. It is not possible to obtain more accurate data, since there are too many different scenarios for the development of the situation, which is influenced by such factors as: the birth rate, mortality rate and the rate of immigration. Under the Medium Growth Scenario, the population of Canada will grow from 35.2 million in 2013 to 51 million by 2063.

Province of British Columbia

The population of the province of British Columbia may grow to 6 million 662 thousand people by 2038. Today the population of the province is 4 million 582 thousand people, of which about 2.5 million live in Greater Vancouver (Metro Vancouver) and 800 thousand - on Vancouver Island. The province crossed the 4 million mark in 1999-2000.

Province of Ontario

By all options, Ontario's population will grow steadily over the next 25 years. And from 13.6 million in 2014 will reach a population of between 14.8 and 18.3 million people by 2038, which will allow this territory of Canada to remain the most populous province in Canada.

Province of alberta

By all measures and all development options, Alberta's population growth will be the fastest in Canada. According to calculations, the population will reach 5.6 - 6.8 million people by 2038. This is compared to 4 million in 2013. This growth will allow the province of Alberta to surpass British Columbia in terms of population.

Immigration program to Canada for 2015

04/18/201404/18/2014

The Express Entry or “accelerated” immigration program will be launched in January 2015. The program was originally called “Expression of Interest”.

This immigration program to Canada promises to be something absolutely innovative in the field of immigration and is aimed at improving the country's economy and providing it with the necessary labor resources.

The Express Immigration program is particularly flexible and will help fill jobs that local workers have not been able to fill. This will attract the necessary labor force to the regions. Under the terms of this program, applicants who have received job offers, as well as immigrants who participate in the program from the Provincial Nominee Program, will be offered permanent resident status. This is the main advantage of the new program compared to the Temporary Worker program, which was focused only on temporary employment of foreign workers.

The program "Express Immigration" is intended for qualified specialists who will be able to submit a questionnaire with information about work experience and education in the general system (pool). If the candidate meets the minimum requirements of the program, then his file will be assigned a rank relative to other forms received from candidates. The Government of Canada, in turn, will consider them and invite the most qualified specialists to apply for the status of a permanent resident of Canada. In addition, these questionnaires will be searchable for Canadian companies, and those who receive a valid job offer or are nominated for immigration from the province will also be able to automatically apply for immigration.

This method seems to the Canadian government to be more effective, since it allows those who have a great chance of success in Canada to immigrate, and not those who are the first in line with immigration documents, as it was before.

At the same time, qualified personnel will be able to count on shorter processing times of documents - 6 months or less.

This program will serve as an excellent resource for employers to find valuable workers.

High school in Canada

04/09/201404/09/2014

Compiled a ranking of secondary schools in British Columbia based on the academic performance of students for the 2012-2013 academic year. In compiling this ranking, 293 educational institutions (both public and private high schools in the province) were considered and the scores of the annual provincial examinations were taken into account on seven indicators:

average mark for the exam,

percentage of students who fail the exam,

the difference between the average grade and the exam score,

the difference in the results in the English language among female and male schoolchildren,

the difference in the results in mathematics among female and male schoolchildren,

percentage of graduates,

percentage of repeaters.

Private schools dominate and top the list again. York House High School in Canada and Crofton House School tied for number one on this list for the second year in a row. Both educational institutions are located in Vancouver.

The highest place that a public school in Canada in the province of British Columbia has managed to take is at the 21st position in the ranking and the Lord Byng school, also located in the largest city in the province (Vancouver).

Below is a part of this rating for your reference. A complete list can be found on the website of this ranking of secondary schools .

Immigration to Quebec - limits for 2014

04/08/201404/08/2014

Québec's 2014 immigration program limits have been announced. These quantitative restrictions apply to the category of skilled worker, investor and entrepreneur.

Quebec Skilled Worker Program - 6,500 applications will be accepted between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2015. This is a very significant decrease in the number of accepted applications compared to the previous limit of 20,000.

Quebec Investor Program - 1,750 applications will be accepted between 8 and 19 September 2014 (two weeks total). However, no more than 1,200 applicants from any one country.

Quebec Entrepreneurship Program - A total of 500 applications will be reviewed by the Quebec government.

Of course, with such restrictions on the number of documents accepted, immigration to Quebec, although it is still very attractive, requires a very careful approach to the formation of a package of documents and does not allow any miscalculations and mistakes in registration.

Toronto Attractions - Summer All Year Round for $ 60 Million

03/25/201403/25/2014

A new theme park is set to open its doors in Toronto in 2016. Toronto's landmarks are famous all over the world, including Niagara Falls, CN Tower (one of the tallest buildings in the world), but the new park is projected to become one of the city's largest tourist attractions over the past three decades.

about the project

The final decision on the location of the park has not yet been made. Three options are currently being considered. According to the idea, this project will be an island of summer for residents and guests of the city for all 365 days a year, which is especially important with the frosty winters characteristic of the province. On the territory of 9,300 square meters there will be sandy beaches, wave pools, restaurants, cafes and other recreational facilities. The park will be equipped with a huge retractable roof, which will transform it into an outdoor and indoor complex depending on the season, thus ensuring uninterrupted operation throughout the year. The cost of the future project is estimated at $ 60 million. According to experts, the island of summer will create about 230 new jobs for local residents and will attract more than 500,000 tourists in the first year.

Work in Alberta

03/20/201403/20/2014

The Province of Alberta has shown an incredible record in terms of the number of new jobs over the past year. According to recent statistical studies, over the past 12 months, the number of new jobs in the province totaled 82,000. Compare this to the national total of 95,000. That is, the province of Alberta accounts for about 87% of all new jobs in Canada.

General trends in the province

Work in Alberta is indeed gaining momentum in parallel with the overall growth and development of the province itself. Of course, this is largely due to the development of Canada's natural resources, which the province of Alberta is rich in. Engineering, mining and construction professionals are in high demand. Vacant positions are filled by both Canadians, migrants from neighboring provinces, and foreign temporary workers. By the way, about 81,000 foreign workers received permanent resident status in Alberta last year alone.

Facts:

The total population of the province of Alberta as of February 2014 was about 3,236,300.

The total number of working population as of February 2014 - 2,364,200

Port of Vancouver: 2013 indicators

03/04/201403/04/2014

Port of Vancouver, Canada's largest port, has released its 2013 results to the public. According to the report, the port will continue its growth trend in 2013, including a repeat of record container traffic volumes.

Indicators for 2013

Thus, over the past year, a record amount of cargo was handled in the port of Vancouver - 135 million tons, which is 9% more than in the previous 2012.

Bulk cargo shipments grew by 11% in 2013, mainly driven by coal and grain shipments.

Cruise shipments jumped 22%, which certainly provided additional stimulus to the tourism sector. Thus, the port received 812 398 passengers in 2013.

Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest gateway, through which up to 19 percent of the country's total trade flows. The port's operations provide jobs for about 57,000 people in the Lower Mainland (southwestern mainland of British Columbia) and about 100,000 people across Canada.

In addition, the Port of Vancouver was also active in 2013 to reduce its negative impact on the environment.

Canada's anti-alcohol laws exceed expectations

02/26/201402/26/2014

British Columbia's stricter drunk driving laws have been more than satisfactory.

Let us recall that the changes were made in September 2010 in memory of 4-year-old Alexandra, who died under the wheels of a drunk driver's car in 2008. Then the court, having taken into consideration all the circumstances of the incident, sentenced the perpetrator to 2.5 years in prison.

Changes effective September 2010

According to the innovations adopted in 2010, drivers face the following punishment for the content of alcohol in the blood:

First warning: BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05 mg per 100 ml

Immediate withdrawal of driver's license for 3 days Possible withdrawal of the car for a fine area for 3 days Fine of 200 Kan dollars

Second warning (over 5 years): BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05 mg per 100 ml

Immediate withdrawal of driver's license for 7 days Possible withdrawal of the car for a fine area for 7 days Fine of 300 Kan dollars

Third warning (over 5 years): BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) exceeds 0.05 mg per 100 ml

Immediate withdrawal of driver's license for 30 days Possible withdrawal of the car for a fine area for 30 days Fine of 400 Kan dollars

Blood Alcohol Test Failure: BAC is greater than 0.08 mg per 100 ml Or refusal to sample

Immediate withdrawal of driver's license for 90 days Possible withdrawal of the car for a fine area for 30 days Fine of 500 Kan dollars

Possible referral for treatment

Results in 3 years

This is not to say that Canada's anti-alcohol laws are particularly tough, but they certainly give results. Thus, the number of deaths due to alcohol intoxication decreased by a significant 52% in just 3 years after the adoption of this law, in figures this is from 112 deaths per year to 54.

During the entire existence of this law (from September 2010 to December 2013), more than 22,000 drivers received warnings and more than 39,000 received the highest degree of punishment.

In Ontario, immigration must work for the good of the province

The provincial government of Ontario is committed to acting to attract more immigrants and prevent immigration fraud.

Proposed changes

The province continues to face the problem of a shortage of qualified specialists in certain industries and industries. And so in Ontario, immigration and provincial programs must reflect the state of the labor market. The bill proposed by the province will give it more control over the selection of candidates for immigration.

The government wants to increase the number of economic immigrants allowed under the provincial nominees program from the current limit of 1,300 to 5,000.

In addition, it is proposed to toughen penalties for immigrants for providing false information during the consideration of an immigration application.

Real estate in Canada is no longer so easy to buy

02/08/201402/08/2014

Vancouver is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful cities not only in Canada, but also in the world. Of course, this status entails some negative aspects.

This, of course, affects its popularity in terms of buying real estate, especially by foreign investors, which sometimes entails an unreasonable rise in prices. First of all, local residents suffer from this.

Real estate in Canada Prices:

According to a study by the Canadian Real Estate Association, the average home price in Halifax is C $ 273,792, in Toronto C $ 541,637 and Vancouver C $ 825,635.

Over the past 17 years, the price of living space in Vancouver has increased by an average of 5.5% annually. And if this trend continues, then it will be very difficult for an ordinary worker to buy real estate in Canada.

Already today, Vancouver residents are thinking about the question - to buy or rent. And many are inclined towards the second option. It at least does not imply the payment of maintenance costs / fees, property taxes and other incidental expenses.

Parents' Canadian immigration is closed until 2015

02/04/201402/04/2014

It took just a month to reach the maximum number of parent sponsorship applications for 2014. Five thousand new packages of documents have been accepted and the parents' Canadian immigration program is closed until next year.

Until the end of this year, Canada plans to host about 20 thousand new residents under the sponsorship program of parents and grandparents.

Immigration to Canada for parents is a very popular family category immigration program. And the task of the immigration service is to minimize the waiting period for obtaining an immigration visa for this class as much as possible.

If you missed the top 5,000 applicants for this program, don't despair. The Super Visa for Parents program is still in place and can help ease the wait until the next new sponsorship program launch. To date, about 28,000 Super Visas have been issued. Almost 98% of the applicants received positive results.

Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa for parents and grandparents. It is issued for a period of 10 years and allows you to stay in Canada for up to 2 years without the need to update your status, that is, leaving Canada.

Multivisa to Canada

Significant changes come into effect on February 6, 2014. All applications for a visa to Canada will be automatically considered for a Multi-entry visa, that is, a multiple-entry visa. The concept of a one-time visa will no longer exist.

A multi-visa to Canada allows tourists to visit the country for 10 years without having to reapply for a visa. But the maximum duration of each stay should be no more than 6 months. Of course, this condition does not apply to foreign students and temporary workers. The length of their each stay is determined by the validity of the Study Permit and the Work Permit.

New Consular Fees Amounts

Together with this innovation, the Consular fees were also revised:

One-time Temporary Resident Visa - canceled (cost $ 75)

Temporary resident multivisa / tourist multivisa - the cost is reduced from 150 to 100 Kan dollars)

The maximum amount of family fees for visas - the cost has increased from 400 to 500 Kan dollars

Study Permit - cost increased from 125 to 150 Kan dollars

Work Permit - cost increased from 150 to 155 Kan dollars

Maximum fee for a Work Permit for creative teams of 3 or more people - cost increased from 450 to 465 Kan dollars

Canadian passport - longer, but faster

01/28/201401/28/2014

This news concerns not only those wishing to immigrate to Canada, but also residents with PR status.

The Parliament of Canada in 2014 intends to revise the procedure for obtaining the status of a citizen of Canada.

There have been no changes to the conditions and procedure for applying for a Canadian passport in over 25 years. According to forecasts, changes will affect the following points.

Wait Longer - Get Faster

Presumably, an immigrant will now have to live in Canada as a permanent resident for longer before he can apply for a Canadian passport. This possible change is justified by the fact that immigrants should get to know the country better and deeper before obtaining local citizenship. Today, the period of residence (actual presence in Canada) should be 3 years out of the last four - only after that, a permanent resident of Canada, subject to all other conditions, can send documents for obtaining citizenship status.

But the procedure for considering the application itself, according to forecasts, should be reduced. Applicants will be able to obtain a Canadian passport at a shorter time frame. Currently, the average waiting time for documents submitted for Canadian citizenship is 2 to 3 years.

Circumstances for deprivation of citizenship

Changes are also expected to give the government the right to revoke citizenship in exceptional circumstances, such as treason or complicity in terrorist attacks.

Passport as a gift for adulthood

Another sore point is the issue of obtaining citizenship for babies born in Canada. Tourism of pregnant women to Canada is quite common, especially from Asian countries. A child born in Canada is eligible for a Canadian passport upon reaching the age of majority.

This problem is also supposed to be considered and solutions to be found, but somewhat later. Provincial governments are also involved (maternity hospitals are a province of regulation at the provincial level), so discussions should be with them.

Tickets to Toronto - everyone travels!

01/23/201401/23/2014

And again Aeroflot pleases with its special offers for flights Moscow - Toronto - Moscow and St. Petersburg - Toronto - St. Petersburg.

If you have been planning a trip to Canada's largest city for a long time, then here it is, perhaps, the ideal moment - affordable tickets to Toronto.

According to data from the official Aeroflot website, the cost of the most attractive ticket from Moscow starts from 20,267 rubles, from St. Petersburg - from 20.601 rubles, all taxes and fees are included.

The sales period is unlimited, but the shipping period ends on March 30, 2014. The maximum stay at the destination is 30 days.

It's a great time to visit family and friends or travel for tourism purposes!

Education in Canada for foreigners - new government plans

01/20/201401/20/2014

The Government of Canada has announced its ambitious plans for International Education. The goal is to double the number of international students and researchers coming to Canada for education, and by 2022, bring this figure to 450 thousand!

Where students are expected from

It is expected that the bulk of new students will come from areas such as:

Brazil, China, India, Mexico, North Africa and the Middle East, Vietnam.

And this is to the already existing stable flows from

France, UK, Germany, Japan, Korea and USA.

Time will tell whether the government will be able to implement such an ambitious plan, but indicators over the past years add enthusiasm. Thus, in 2012, the number of foreign students in Canada has already reached 265,000, which is 11% more than in the previous year.

Of course, there is a huge difference between 265 thousand in 2012 and 450 thousand by 2022. But this only underlines the seriousness of the Canadian government's intentions to bring the country on a par with the leaders of the educational sector in terms of the number of international students - the United States and Australia.

For comparison:

2012 - 2013 - 819,644 international students studied at American colleges and universities,

2012 - 2013 - 515,853 international students studied in Australia.

According to current estimates, Canada accounts for only 5% of the global flow of international students and is the 7th most popular in the world after the USA, Great Britain, China, France, Germany and Australia.

Education in Canada for foreigners is prestigious, because Canada is a truly unique country, a multinational, friendly and safe country. And Canadian education meets the highest international standards. It is one thing to convey this idea and present it on the international education market. But according to many experts, in order to achieve the goals set for attracting international students, the government will also have to focus on solving other issues, including visa and immigration issues:

facilitating the process of obtaining a Study Permit;

enabling international full-time students to earn money in Canada without the need to apply for a Work Permit.

Forecast 2013 - 2020: In-demand specialties in Canada

01/16/201401/16/2014

According to forecasts of experts from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development of Canada, the demand for some specialties in Canada will remain invariably high, at least for the next 7 years.

The most in-demand specialties in Canada

1) Nurses, especially registered ones. This issue is still quite acute in Canada. Specialists in this field are required not only in hospitals and hospitals, but also in nursing homes.

The projected number of new jobs is about 128 thousand.

2) Technological and technical employees of the medical field, in particular, employees of medical laboratories, highly specialized specialists in the diagnosis of the disease (sonography, ultrasound, X-ray, cardiology, and others).

The projected number of new jobs is about 40 thousand.

3) Managers in the educational, health and social sectors.

The projected number of new jobs is about 67 thousand.

4) Specialists in architecture and urban planning.

The projected number of new jobs is about 13 thousand.

5) Workers in the construction sector, including supervisors for construction projects and builders of various profiles.

The projected number of new jobs is about 97 thousand.

Rising real estate prices in Canada

01/08/201401/08/2014

With the growing popularity of Canada, the rapid increase in the number of new residents of the country of the maple leaf and the stable situation in the economy, prices for Canadian real estate continue to rise.

Cost: Indicators of the year and forecasts

So, at the end of 2012, the average cost of a residential building was 380 thousand Canadian dollars. This figure is derived from research in 25 major cities in Canada. If you take Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, the amount will at least double. The price of 380,000 Canadian dollars is a record for Canada in the history of residential real estate. But is this the limit?

By the end of this year, the average cost is projected to increase by another 2.5 percent, by about CAD 10,000. Alberta, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Saskatchewan are expected to be the leaders in price growth.

And what about the demand?

The rise in real estate prices in Canada, of course, does not please local residents, but even with such trends, the demand for real estate in Canada does not decrease. In the new 2014, about 475 thousand transactions with residential real estate are expected.

A fair for immigrants: success in Vancouver too

01/03/201401/03/2014

For the first time in Vancouver, on December 16, 2013, the annual Career, Education, Settlement Fair was held for immigrants. And the first pancake did not turn out to be lumpy at all, on the contrary - the event went off with a bang!

The previous three fairs were successfully held in Toronto. In the same year, it was decided to hold this event on the territory of the central public library of the city of Vancouver.

Details of the event in Vancouver

The fair went on all day and it seemed that the flow of people wishing to visit this event was inexhaustible.

The doors opened at 11 am and a variety of sources of information were available to new residents of Canada: stands, seminars, consultations. The main goal of the event is to help immigrants find their bearings in the new labor and education market. To help them at the fair were specialists in various fields, including job search, diploma assessment, advanced training and others. Free seminars and information sessions on resume writing and preparation for job interviews were held throughout the day.

At 7 o'clock in the evening, the work of the fair ended and its results were appreciated - a lot of positive feedback and gratitude were received from participants and visitors.

Canadian experience class, program changes

12/17/201312/17/2013

Again, some changes have been made to the immigration rules of one of the most popular Canadian Experience Class (CEC) programs, the Canadian Experience.

What is Canadian Experience Class (CEC)?

This program is primarily suitable for temporary residents of Canada who came to the country on a work visa, as well as foreign students who studied in Canada and received a subsequent Work Permit (Post-Graduate Work Permit). The main requirements for the program: 12 months of work experience in Canada (skilled work experience, full-time, legal) and an appropriate level of English proficiency.

Changes to the Canadian Experience Class

First of all, a limit was set on the number of applications for this program for the coming year, more precisely from November 9, 2013 to October 31, 2014 - 12,000 applications. And all applications accepted on November 9, 2013 and after fall under the new rules.

1) The following specialties are no longer eligible for the CEC program:

Cooks

Food Service Supervisors

Administrative Officers

Administrative Assistants

Accounting Technicians and Bookkeepers

Retail Sales Supervisors

Only those documents for these specialties, which were submitted for consideration before November 9, will be considered.

2) Moreover, under the new rules, only the first 200 applications for each specialty category “B” NOC index (National Occupation Classification) will be accepted for consideration.

Yes, this imposes certain pressure and unnecessary stress on those wishing to immigrate under this program. Be careful when filling out the documents, because incorrectly prepared documents can lead to their return, and subsequent applications fill the existing limit in the specialty.

12/12/201312/12/2013

The Minister of Housing has delighted Alberta's landlords and dashed the hopes of tenants once again - renting housing in Alberta will not get cheaper.

The origins of the problem

The fact is that due to the impressive influx of immigrants to the province of Alberta, the cost of rental housing in Alberta has increased significantly in value. An additional incentive for higher prices is the relatively high wages in the oil and gas province. According to a recent statistical study, the average wage per week in August was $ 1,117.58 Canadian dollars, we emphasize, per week, which is about $ 8 Canadian dollars per hour more than, for example, in the same province of Prince Edward.

These factors influenced the rise in rental prices in Alberta. In one year, from April 2012 to April 2013, the market rose by an average of 7.2%.

So will housing in Alberta be cheaper?

Frustrated tenants voiced their outrage about rising rental prices, but the answer was clear - the government would not intervene in the free market with its price regulation. Thus, housing in Alberta, or rather its availability, is in the hands of the property owners.

The Minister explained his decision to stay away from the limitations of the tendencies of growth in the cost of rental housing in Alberta by the fact that landlords have to cope with their risks too. After all, when the market collapses, as it did in 2008 (for example, the rental price fell from 1,900 to 1,100 Canadian dollars), the property owner / investor is also not protected by the state.

Parent sponsorship 2014

Family immigration

The parent sponsorship program in Canada will resume in 2014. Documents will be accepted from January 2 of the coming year. Although the limit for accepting documents at the moment is 5,000 completed applications, it is expected that a total of about 20,000 visas will be issued in this area (for parents and grandparents).

The fact is that since 2011, the Canadian Immigration Service has accumulated a lot of pending applications, which they promise to deal with first.

And according to forecasts, by 2014 the terms of consideration of documents for parental sponsorship will be about 2 - 2.5 years, by 2015 - only 1 - 2 years.

Part of the Donald Trump Tower is given to the Department, the upper floors can become the property of any mortal person with a large bank account :). The sale of apartments began in October 2013 and the minimum cost of the most modest apartment in terms of area is $ 619,900.
